In 1980, the Music Man was revived and saw Dick Van Dyke play the title role. Again in 2000 the play again saw major theatrical attention running 699 shows at the Neil Simon Theatre. Using the 2000 success as a platform, Matthew Broderick starred as the Professor in the 2003 television movie.
